{"id":5348,"date":"2026-07-28T10:28:53","date_gmt":"2026-07-28T10:28:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/savingyounglives.com\/?p=5348"},"modified":"2026-07-29T07:24:46","modified_gmt":"2026-07-29T07:24:46","slug":"yandedjiby-faye","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/savingyounglives.com\/zh\/2026\/07\/28\/yandedjiby-faye\/","title":{"rendered":"Yand\u00e9djiby Faye"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At the Tambacounda Regional Hospital, located approximately 480 km from Dakar, we recently performed acute peritoneal dialysis on an 8-year-old girl with severe malaria complicated by acute kidney injury.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On admission, the patient had a Glasgow Coma Scale score of 9\/15, a blood urea level of 3.4 g\/L, and a serum creatinine level of 84 mg\/L, warranting the initiation of peritoneal dialysis.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The treatment was performed using pediatric dialysis bags, with an infusion volume of 15 mL\/kg. A total of 14 exchanges were completed: 6 with a one-hour dwell time, followed by 8 with a two-hour dwell time.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">By the second day, the patient had regained satisfactory urine output. Laboratory results showed a marked improvement in kidney function, with blood urea decreasing to 1.4 g\/L and serum creatinine to 20 mg\/L.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Peritoneal dialysis was discontinued on the third day. Subsequent laboratory tests confirmed a return to normal kidney function, with a serum creatinine level of 6 mg\/L and a blood urea level of 0.45 g\/L.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Clinically, the patient&#8217;s condition also improved significantly: she regained normal consciousness, and her physical examination was unremarkable.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dr. Yand\u00e9djiby Faye, adult nephrologist, former IPNA Fellow, and graduate of the French University Diploma (DIU) in Pediatric Nephrology.
