A powerful success story from our WCN’26 Yokohama PD Workshop participant, Bimala Baniya from Kathmandu, Nepal 🇳🇵
Bimala recently performed peritoneal dialysis (PD) in a 2-year-old child with T-cell ALL, tumor lysis syndrome, fluid overload, and uremic encephalopathy — using a rigid PD catheter, as it was the only available option. The child successfully received life-saving treatment despite limited resources.
Working in a government-based pediatric hospital without access to hemodialysis, Bimala continues to advocate for a “PD First” policy to improve access to kidney replacement therapy for children in need.

I really want a “PD First” policy in my hospital, and since we do not have HD, PD is the best option for me and my patients. As it is the only government-based pediatric hospital, it would be ideal for our setting. “ – Bimala Baniya
